Years ago, Menorca decided to offer more than just sun and beach to its visitors, expanding its cultural offer year after year until it reached where it is today.
Promoting the Talayotic culture, proclaiming itself a Gastronomic Region, becoming a benchmark for sustainable tourism are some of the examples.
But in 2021 something changed.
With the arrival of the Swiss gallery Hauser & Wirth in Maó in July 2021, the Balearic art scene changed completely, positioning Menorca as the epicentre of contemporary art in the Mediterranean.
Since its arrival, several galleries have joined the movement and have opened in Menorca, offering tourists and residents a wide range of works to enjoy.
Some galleries not to be missed are:
Galería Hauser & Wirth which was installed in the Illa del Rei, in the waters of the port of Maó, a privileged place in the world panorama of contemporary art.
Galería Cayón which opened its headquarters in Maó in 2018 in the building that once housed the Victoria Cinema, and since then has opened its doors every summer to offer contemporary art exhibitions.
LÔAC, Alaior Art Contemporani houses one of the most impressive collections of contemporary art works on the island. It is the only public exhibition of its kind on the island of Menorca, and is also one of the most important in the whole of the Mediterranean.
Can Saura. Museo de Ciutadella. This cultural space begins a new stage this year, opening its headquarters in the centre of the historic centre, in the stately Can Saura building.

In the administrative capital of Menorca, Maó, we find this historic building, a clear example of the Maó bourgeoisie of the 18th-19th centuries, converted into an art centre with travelling exhibitions throughout the year.
